Description

The Runaways mission 7, AKA "the mission that never was". xD I had both the past and present parts all sketched out but never actually got around to finishing them. I figured I should submit them here anyways for sake of constancy in the team's story.

NOW FOR SUMMARIES

---

LEFT - TECHNO AND SCHLAGER'S PART: The Future, delivering a letter to Anana.

Techno finds Jazz's necklace that the houndour got from his long distance girlfriend, Lily, and realizes that Jazz has disappeared along with the other Pokemon. He's very distraught by this since he's not sure if Jazz is dead or what. Techno's pretty quiet for a few days, helping look for the others mindlessly while Schlager tries to help raise Tech's spirits. When their mission is given to them, a now infiriated Techno storms off to go accept it while Schlager tries to convince him otherwise, saying they should wait for Jazz to come back. Tech ignores the electrike and accepts the mission to deliver a letter to Anana from Fresnel. The two rescuers head off towards Alomomola Bay.
They're then stopped by three rough looking scrafties demanding that the two hand over the letter. The three thugs explain that they've been hired by a "certain party" to "relieve" them of the letter. Techno and Schlager of course refuse, saying the three should get the heck out of their way. The leader of the thugs then recognizes Techno as the son the leader of their former gang of scraggies and scrafties, and tells this to Tech. Tech then realizes that the three scrafties were a part of the group that had murdered his former mentor and mother, Maria, when Tech was younger after the leader hints at it with insults. Infuriated, Techno rushes at the three scraggies, Schlager trying to stop him before reluctantly joining the battle himself.
The five exchange blows, but Tech and Schlager are outnumbered and outgunned. All seems lost until, after getting Hi Jump Kicked into the air by the leader scrafty, Techno realizes that he was too impulsive because he was so focused on getting revenge for Maria that he lost all sense of himself. He closes his eyes, calming himself down and focusing on a solution, a way to win the fight. Techno finds one and gathers all of his fury and frustration into one powerful Payback move. He hits the leader solidly in his jaw, sending one of the scrafty's teeth flying. The two other scrafty subordinates rush up to their leader after he hits the ground. Now terrified of Techno's power, the scrafty leader surrenders and flees with his subordinates running behind him.
Techno and Schlager make it safely to Alomomola Bay, a little bruised but no worse for wear. Anana greets them and thanks them for the letter, giving them a couple of oran berries for the road and sending them home.
Schlager comments that Techno looks a lot happier as the two walk back to Tao. Tech chuckles and says he is. He also says knows now that he shouldn't lose faith in himself or Jazz, and that he knows now that Jazz will make it home safely. Tech has more confidence in himself now, as well as more faith in his friends. Schlager says he's just happy that Techno's happy, and the two laugh and walk happily back home.

RIGHT - JAZZ'S PART: The Past, capturing Shade.

Jazz's part of mission 7 begins at the part after the group of rescuers that had been sent to the past have gathered their bearings and Devonshire is instructing the group on how they're going to go after and capture Shade. Jazz listens intently, worrying a little about the rest of his team in the back of his mind but discarding his worry to focus on the task at hand. He knows that Techno and Schlager will be fine since they have each other.
Jazz then picks up Shade's scent while the rescuers look for any signs of the zoroark. He's shocked after he recognizes it as a scent he had briefly picked up when fighting Sorbet. Jazz dashes off, following the scent and ignoring the protests of the pokemon he zipped past.
Jazz follows his nose straight to Shade. The zoroark praises him for his trustworthy nose since it had bypassed her illusions. Jazz asks her why she hurt Jasmine so horribly, but Shade only laughs and says that she's not going to tell him. She's not going to tell anybody. Shade then grows more serious, saying "she needed to do it". Jazz is furious, telling Shade that she didn't "need" to try and kill anybody. Killing is wrong! Shade laughs again, telling him that "killing is a part of life in a world like this. It's unavoidable. It's necessary." Jazz grows even more furious, shouting that murder is never necessary. Shade just laughs louder at him.
Jazz is shaking with both anger and fear at this point. He hates Shade for what she's done, but fears her power. He wants to help the others capture, he wants to avenge Jasmine, he wants to punish her for what she's done. Jazz's thoughts whirl around in his head as Shade laughs, and he feels like he's going mad. He's afraid, horribly afraid of Shade, his thoughts... he's afraid of everything. He feels like a coward. Then he remembers Techno and Schlager. He remembers how he saved Lily from when she was trapped under a beam. He remembers fighting Sorbet. He remembers standing up to Techno himself each time the scraggy let his temper get to far. Jazz realizes that he's not a coward at all. He was afraid all those other times, but he didn't let his fear get the better of him because he was helping his friends. He was able to do all of those things because his friends where counting on him, believing in him. It was because of them that he was able to have courage.
Jazz clears his mind and is filled with a new feeling of determination. He lunges at Shade, using Fire Fang and digging his fangs into her arm. She stops her mad laughter and demands that he let her go. When Jazz doesn't respond, Shade begins lashing out at him with her free arm. When the houdour doesn't even flinch, she furiously slashes his left eye with her claws and orders him to let her go. He responds with one unyielding word.
"No."
Shade is shocked and is two seconds from ripping Jazz to shreds when the rest of the rescuers barrel through the trees and rush Shade. The pokemon fight her until she's subdued and captured. The group then drags Shade off with them back into the forest, stopping to let Dr. Quaak treat their injuries and let Devonshire figure out the direction they should head to get to Monochrome Tower. When Dr. Quaak gets to Jazz, he ties the houndour's bandanna around his injured eye, saying that the temporary bandage is the best he can do at that point with his lack of a lot of medical supplies. Jazz says it's fine and he'll be okay, despite wincing a little as the doctor finishes tying the bandanna.
The rescuers then head off towards Monochrome tower, Shade in tow.

WHEW OKAY SUMMARIES DONE

TL;DR Both parties completed their missions.
Schlager's becoming more mature and fond of his teammates.
Techno now has more confidence in himself and faith in his friends.
Jazz realizes that he's not really a coward because his friends give him courage.
Jazz gets a big ol' scratch over his left eye because of Shade clawing him.
